We decided that Lela, now that she's a big four-year-old, needed to stop sleeping with her pacifier. In our house we call it a "beshie" (a name Lela invented years ago). With a little help from Elmo and Sesame St., we established November 4th as Bye-bye-beshie Day.
Lela put the beshie in a box,
and left it outside the door for the "beshie fairy"...
The next morning, the beshie fairy had taken the pacifier and left her these great special big-girl pajamas, with owls on them to keep watch over her at night.
In recognition of Resli having stopped sucking her thumb a few months ago, the fairy also left her a polka-dot bathrobe. (There's no thumb fairy, but we're proud of her too...)
Lela has said she misses the beshie, but has done great for two nights without it.
